Welcome Jewelry Expressions by Anita
Today, we welcome Jewelry Expressions by Anita to our guild. Let's see how they answered some questions about Chainmaille.
How long have you been doing Chainmaille? I started doing chainmaille about two years ago. So far I have done a Full Persian, Half Persian, Double Vision, Byzantine, Euro 4 in 1, and Tryzantine. I want to try some other patterns, so being with this group should help me meet those goals.
Why do you like Chainmaille? I love the look and the diversity of chainmaille. It can be very elegant or very rustic. It's great for women or men. You can use all types of metal.
What is your favorite type of ring? Metal - I love copper and Argentium s.s. Ring size - depends on the weave.
What type of items do you prefer to make? I make mostly bracelets and necklaces.
Which weave would you like to learn that you don't currently know? Helm's weave, Jens Pind, Dragonscale
Which piece are you most proud of? I would have to say a Byzantine necklace with a wire wrapped shell focal. I used rose gold Parawire and it is beautiful with the shell.
What advice would you give someone who is considering doing Chainmaille? Go for it!! Be patient with yourself. When I first started, rings went flying everywhere. They still do!!

How long have you been doing Chainmaille? About 4 years
Why do you like Chainmaille? The designs look so intricate and unique.
Why do you like Chainmaille? The designs look so intricate and unique.
What is your favorite type of ring? 20g sterling silver 7/64, perfect for making dainty bracelets and earrings.
What type of items do you prefer to make? Bracelets and earrings
Which weave would you like to learn that you don't currently know? Captive inverted roundmaille
Which piece are you most proud of? A sterling silver graduated Byzantine necklace commissioned by a friend. That was one heavy necklace.
What advice would you give someone who is considering doing Chainmaille? You have to have a lot of patience to learn some of the weaves, especially since there are both imperial measurements (ie. 7/64) and metric depending on which tutorial you're following. That can be a bit of a headache trying to determine which rings you need if your rings aren't in the same style.

How long have you been doing Chainmaille? I first learned about maille in late 2008, was only able to do it very sparingly till 2010 when I was finally able to pay more attention; still learning and loving it every day. My very first piece is a Steppingstones bracelet out of scrap wires:
Why do you like Chainmaille? Don’t exactly know... maybe it’s the hand movements, and it’s logically beautiful to me.
What is your favorite type of ring? Niobium is by far my favorite, not only for the anodizing quality, but I also love the warm, dark grey tone, and its temper is just right for my maille and forged work.
What type of items do you prefer to make? Jewelry, trinkets, fun objects, anything to be enjoyed for their own beauty and uniqueness. Also would love to do a larger item in the future, like an inlay, clothing, or curtain.
Which weave would you like to learn that you don't currently know? There are so manyJ Right now, the next one on my to-learn list is Trinity; saw several samples online recently, they look so cool!
Which piece are you most proud of? My “Razzle Dazzle, Starbuck Takes on All Eight” necklace, an asymmetrical, graduated Full Persian 6 in 1 necklace, with a modified Airplane unit as a build-in pendant. It’s one of my original designs representing an aerial movement in a fictional universe; and I’ve been rather happy with the result.
What advice would you give someone who is considering doing Chainmaille? Think like a jump ring, enjoy the process, and most importantly, have fun!

How long have you been doing Chainmaille? I've been making chainmaille for about 4 years now.
Why do you like Chainmaille? I just find it intriguing. The feeling of it, the history of it, and the infinite variety of possibilities
What is your favorite type of ring? I think my current favorite is Stainless Steel
What type of items do you prefer to make? Simple items. As in, I don't really find much interest in overly complicate or 'busy' designs. But, that's just me.

I can't really think of one currently. When I see something I like, I make it. :-)
Which piece are you most proud of? Tough question. But, I would have to say my Carabell Rose Earrings. They are my first completely original design. I haven't seen another pair like them yet. :-)
What advice would you give someone who is considering doing Chainmaille? Pay close attention to detail and ring closures. In my opinion, quality is far better than quantity or speed. Thank you!!
